Sacraments

The sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us. At every stage of life, they draw us nearer to God.

Through the waters of Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God, becoming members of the Church and heirs to eternal life. At St. Jude Thaddeus, parents are asked to call the parish office as soon as they know they are expecting, so that preparation can begin several months before the birth. Baptismal preparation classes are offered six times per year — please see the parish bulletin for the current schedule. You must be a registered member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish to baptize your child here.

Eucharist

The source and summit of Catholic life.

In the Eucharist, bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, truly present under the sacred species — the source and summit of all Christian life. At St. Jude Thaddeus, First Communion preparation is a two-year program that begins in first grade and is completed in second grade. Students and parents are required to attend special activities and practices throughout the preparation process. Contact the Elementary Religious Education office for enrollment and scheduling information.

Confirmation

Sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit.

Confirmation completes Baptism and strengthens the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the life of the confirmed, enabling them to be mature witnesses of the faith. At St. Jude Thaddeus, Confirmation is a two-year program for students in 9th and 10th grade. The program addresses all areas of faith formation — religious education, social and liturgical ministry, and service — and includes retreats, service projects, socials, and active participation in parish ministries. Reconciliation

God's mercy poured out for the forgiven sinner.

Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, those who have sinned after Baptism receive pardon and peace through the ministry of the priest, restoring their relationship with God and the Church. At St. Jude Thaddeus, confessions are heard every Saturday from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Appointments outside of that time may be arranged by calling the parish office.

Marriage

A covenant of love that reflects Christ's love for the Church.

In the Sacrament of Marriage, a baptized man and a baptized woman establish between themselves a lifelong covenant ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children. Diocesan policy at St. Jude Thaddeus requires that couples make an appointment with a parish priest at least six months before the proposed wedding date. Couples are strongly advised not to set a final date for the ceremony before completing that initial interview.

Anointing of the Sick

Christ's healing grace for those who are ill or elderly.

The Anointing of the Sick confers a special grace on Christians facing illness or old age, uniting them more closely to the passion of Christ and strengthening their soul and, when God wills it, their body. As a Catholic community, St. Jude Thaddeus believes this sacrament is especially intended to strengthen those being tried by illness. Parishioners or family members may call the parish office at any time, or use the contact form on the parish website, to request this sacrament.

  • Available to any parishioner facing serious illness, upcoming surgery, or the frailty of advanced age.

Holy Orders

Ordained service as deacon, priest, or bishop.

Through Holy Orders, the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles is continued in the Church until the end of time in three degrees: bishop, priest, and deacon. St. Jude Thaddeus is served by Pastor Fr. Steven L. Leger, Associate Pastor Fr. Benjamin Vesuwe, and Deacons Randy Cashiola and Mike Dodson. Men discerning a call to the priesthood or diaconate are encouraged to speak with the pastor or contact the Diocese of Beaumont for vocations guidance.
